A Cave City woman is facing multiple charges after a Kentucky State Police pursuit on Ky. 163 ended in a multi-vehicle crash in Tompkinsville.

Troopers tried to stop a 2016 GMC Terrain for speeding just before 3 p.m. on June 3 at the Metcalfe County and Monroe County line, according to a Kentucky State Police press release. When the trooper turned on his emergency equipment, the driver allegedly did not stop and a pursuit began south on Ky. 163.

According to KSP, another trooper was positioned farther down Ky. 163 and deployed a tire deflation device in an attempt to end the pursuit. The device successfully struck a front tire, but the vehicle continued traveling at a high rate of speed toward Tompkinsville.

The pursuing trooper terminated the chase at the Tompkinsville city limits after losing sight of the vehicle. At that point, state police notified the Tompkinsville Police Department to be on the lookout for the SUV.

A short time later, Tompkinsville police contacted state police to report the vehicle had been involved in a collision at the intersection of Ky. 163 and Columbia Avenue near the Valero gas station in Tompkinsville.

Troopers responded and opened an investigation into the crash.

The inquiry found that the driver, identified as 36-year-old Amanda Sanchez of Cave City, struck two vehicles on Columbia Avenue, causing one of those vehicles to hit a third.

Two people in one of the vehicles were taken to a hospital with what troopers described as minor injuries, and they were later released.

Sanchez was arrested by Trooper Codie Ford and taken to the Barren County Detention Center.

She is charged with speeding 26 mph or more over the limit, DUI second offense, first-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle and multiple counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, including charges involving a police officer.

Additional charges include driving on a DUI-suspended license, reckless driving, failure to wear seat belts and improper passing, according to state police.

Trooper Ford is continuing the investigation into the pursuit.

KSP said the collision investigation remains ongoing under Trooper Dean Lunz.

Sanchez has a $50,000 cash bond and an initial court appearance at 9 a.m., June 9, according to the Barren County Detention Center website.
