Glasgow Independent Schools employees will be getting a two percent raise for the upcoming school year.
The school district’s board of education approved the move during its regular monthly meeting on Monday, June 8, in the CO2 boardroom.
During discussion of the raises, Finance Officer Sandy Moore presented the board with two scenarios — one percent vs. two percent raises. She said each step would cost the district an estimated $135,000.
Board member Barret Lessenberry said he thinks the school district needs to stay competitive with surrounding districts.
“I think we’ve got to attract the best people we can,” he said. “I think that’s pretty critical.
“I think if we want the best end product, we’ve got to attract the best people we can get.”
Lessenberry said he favored the two percent raises.
When Board Chair Mary Burchett-Bower asked Moore if the district felt comfortable with a two percent raise, she said: “yes.”
Board members agreed that they should go with the two percent option and unanimously approved the raises.
