Barren County Schools has been awarded a $12,240 grant from the WHAS Crusade for Children to purchase specialized equipment for students with diverse abilities. District officials say the money is part of the Crusade’s 2026-27 grant program, which follows the organization’s 73rd annual fundraising campaign.
According to the district, the grant will fund specialized seating and desks designed to better support students’ physical and sensory needs. The money will also be used for large-screen Chromebooks and large-screen iPads with protective cases, giving students improved access to digital learning tools. Additional adaptive equipment will include sensory floor seating, weighted lap pads, a functional hand device, and a study carrel.
Officials say these resources are intended to give students greater access to learning and to support their individual physical, sensory, and instructional needs. “We are incredibly grateful to the WHAS Crusade for Children and to the donors who make these grants possible each year,” said Christa Middleton, director of special programs for Barren County Schools. “This funding will allow us to provide specialized equipment that helps remove barriers to learning and gives our students the tools they need to succeed,” Middleton said. She added that the district appreciates the Crusade’s continued investment in the children of Barren County.
According to the organization, the WHAS Crusade for Children has supported agencies that serve children with diverse abilities across Kentucky and southern Indiana for more than seven decades. Its annual grant program provides funding for equipment, technology, and services aimed at improving quality of life and educational opportunities for children. Barren County Schools officials say they are proud to partner with the WHAS Crusade for Children in its mission to empower every child to reach their full potential.
