Barren County school board to weigh multiple topics at Thursday meeting

The Barren County Board of Education is scheduled to meet Thursday, July 9, at 5:30 p.m. at the Barren County Schools Central Office. According to the draft agenda, members will work through a full list of financial items, student travel requests, policy updates and contracts.

The board is expected to act on an end-of-year financial closeout and a summary of payments for the Barren County Area Technology Center addition project.

Out-of-state and overnight student travel appears on the agenda, including Barren County High School boys basketball traveling to Pensacola, Florida, for a tournament from Dec. 26-30, 2026. A separate request would send Barren County High School girls basketball to Panama City Beach, Florida, for a tournament from Dec. 27-30, 2026.

For the 2026-27 school year, the board plans to consider revised salary schedules, supplements and stipends. Members also are set to take up approval of the certified evaluation plan and Kentucky Department of Education GMAP assurances for 2026-27.

Policy and procedure changes are also listed, including a second reading of the annual policy and procedure update for 2026-27. Specific items include a Title I parent and family engagement policy and administrative procedures related to school-related student trip forms, food and beverage sales proposals, bus driver reports of student conduct and related forms.

Board members are scheduled to review and approve a series of handbooks and manuals for the coming school year. Those include the Barren County student handbook and discipline code, the district athletics and coaches handbook, the Barren County Schools employee manual, several BBB program handbooks and notebooks, preschool program guidelines, and the transportation department administrative handbook and procedures.

The agenda also lists approval of summer and fall fundraisers, master schedules for 2026-27 and donations received in 2025-26. ARC chairpersons for special education meetings are set to be approved as well.

Contracts and agreements for 2026-27 are slated for action, including a memorandum of agreement for an educational neglect prevention and family engagement program. Other items include an employment collaboration agreement with Three Corners, an MOU with Murray State University Racer Academy, a Head Start memorandum of agreement and a contract with the Metcalfe County Board of Education for services for students with hearing impairments.

The board is expected to consider a partial release of contract, lease and option, lease agreement and statutory mortgage lien and revenue pledge on a property described in the agenda as the 1297 property. Members also will be asked to approve a declaration of surplus property.

According to the agenda, the surplus items include a maintenance truck, a general use van, a food service SUV and four automated external defibrillators, or AEDs. The three vehicles are listed for resale, while the AEDs are listed for disposal.
