Barren County Schools has named longtime educator Angela Rush as its new District Career and Technical Education coordinator. Rush is filling an existing position that opened when former coordinator Justin Browning was named the district’s Director of Instruction.

She brings more than 25 years of experience in career and technical education to the role.

Most recently, Rush served as Business and Marketing Program consultant for the Kentucky Department of Education, where she worked with school districts across Kentucky to strengthen CTE programs, support curriculum development, collaborate with business and industry partners, and provide professional learning for educators.

Before joining the state education department, Rush spent nearly 24 years as a business and marketing teacher at Barren County High School.

During that time, she served as the Career and Technical Education department chair, advised the Future Business Leaders of America chapter, taught dual-credit courses, and helped prepare students for success in college and the workforce.

Her leadership has been recognized at both the state and local levels.

According to district officials, honors include being named Barren County Schools Innovation Teacher of the Year and receiving the Kentucky Department of Education Strategic Excellence and Achievement Award.

As District Career and Technical Education coordinator, Rush will lead Barren County’s existing CTE programs across the district.

She is expected to work with school leaders, teachers, business partners, and postsecondary institutions to ensure students have access to high-quality career pathways and meaningful workforce experiences.

“Angie has dedicated her career to helping students discover opportunities that prepare them for successful futures,” Superintendent Amy Irwin said in a statement. “She understands the importance of strong career and technical education programs because she has led them in the classroom and supported them across the state.”

“The remarkable growth of Career and Technical Education in Barren County Schools over the past two decades has created exceptional opportunities for students while strengthening the long-term vitality of our community and workforce,” Rush said. “I am honored to return home to Barren County Schools and look forward to working alongside our teachers, administrators, business and industry partners, and community stakeholders to build upon this strong foundation. Together, we will continue expanding innovative pathways that prepare students for success in college, careers, and life while meeting the evolving needs of our region.”

Rush holds a bachelor’s degree in business and marketing education from Western Kentucky University, a Master of Business Administration from Morehead State University, and Rank I certification in educational administration from Western Kentucky University.
