Nighttime lane closures and delays are coming to a busy stretch of KY 90 Happy Valley Road in Barren County as a larger safety project moves forward.
Transportation officials say motorists should expect lane closures between mile points 0.4 and 1.4 beginning Sunday night, when crews are scheduled to start resurfacing that section of the roadway. Drivers are urged to slow down, watch for workers and equipment, and allow extra time when traveling through the work zone during nighttime hours.
The resurfacing work is one part of a broader effort to improve safety and efficiency along roughly nine miles of the KY 90 Happy Valley Road corridor. The work runs from Sanders Street at mile point 0.2 to the U.S. 68 Veterans Outer Loop at about mile point 8.5. The project includes adding alternating passing lanes and new turn lanes at different points along the route to help traffic flow and reduce congestion.
Crews are also scheduled to complete drainage improvements, guardrail upgrades and shoulder work at various spots on KY 90. Passing lane extensions and vegetation trimming are part of the plan as well, which should improve sight lines and overall driving conditions.
Officials say the mix of improvements is intended to make the corridor safer and more efficient for local commuters, commercial traffic and visitors. The KY 90 Happy Valley Road project is expected to be finished later this year, though the timeline can be affected by weather and construction conditions.
