The Johnson Property Ad Hoc Committee has taken another step toward developing largest piece of undeveloped land inside the Glasgow city limits. The committee members refined a new request for proposals in hopes of drawing more interest from developers.
Committee members met Tuesday in the council chambers conference room at the Luska J. Twyman Municipal Building, where they went over the final draft of the request for proposals and made several key edits.
One of the most significant changes involved how potential uses on the site are described. The group agreed to move away from language that focused on a dedicated sports complex and instead refer to the project as a potential multi-use development.
Broader terminology is intended to give developers more flexibility in crafting proposals while still leaving room for recreational elements.
Mayor Henry Royse said developers appear to view the idea of a sports complex on the Johnson Property as a positive feature.
Members also adjusted how any city-retained property on the tract is described, working to clarify terms that may affect how much land is available for private development.
Beyond the wording changes, the committee put substantial focus on how to promote the opportunity.
The committee discussed placing advertisements for the Johnson Property in several regional markets, including Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, Nashville, Atlanta, Indianapolis and St. Louis. They also talked about sending information on the project to the Middle Tennessee Commercial Real Estate Development Association to reach additional potential developers.
The new round of advertisements is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 3.
The Johnson Property Ad Hoc Committee includes local officials and representatives who are working together to shape the site’s future and attract private investment.
The panel’s next meeting is set for Aug. 11 at 3 p.m. in the council chambers conference room at the Luska J. Twyman Municipal Building.
