A stretch of Ky. 88 in Hart County now carries the name of former state Rep. Dottie Sims, honoring her years of public service and local roots.

Family, friends and community leaders gathered Tuesday, July 28, to officially dedicate part of the road between Munfordville and Cub Run as the Representative Dottie Sims Memorial Highway.

The ceremony included the unveiling of new highway signs recognizing Sims’ years of public service and her lasting impact on Hart County and the surrounding region. Speakers said the memorial designation is meant to keep Sims’ work and legacy visible to everyone who travels the road.

According to a joint resolution approved by the Kentucky General Assembly in February, the roadway between mile point 15.2 and mile point 16.1 is the designated stretch. Lawmakers stated the memorial is intended to recognize Sims’ long record of public service and her ties to the region.

The resolution notes that Sims was born Dorothy Jean “Dottie” Sims on April 6, 1949, in Hiseville, Kentucky, to Paul G. and Eugenia Ann London. She lived in Horse Cave and owned Sims Bookkeeping and Tax Service, working in tax preparation and consulting for about 30 years.

Before serving in the Kentucky House of Representatives, she was a member of the Caverna School District Board of Education.

She went on to represent the citizens of the 19th District in the House for 12 years, working on behalf of residents in Hart, Larue and Edmonson counties.

Sims died Oct. 9, 2023, at age 74.
