Barren County school board members are facing a packed agenda Thursday as they gather for their regular monthly meeting at the district’s central office off Trojan Way.
According to the agenda, the board will consider proposed general tax rates for the 2026-27 school year, a key step in setting local funding levels for the district.
The meeting notice states members will review several out-of-state and overnight student travel requests.
Those include Barren County High School students attending FFA Career Development Events and competitions at the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville Aug. 20-21, 2026, and the girls golf team traveling for tournaments in Lexington Sept. 11-13, 2026, and Bardstown Sept. 28-29, 2026.
Construction and facilities are also a major part of the agenda.
The board is set to act on Summary of Payments No. 33 for various Barren County High School projects and Summary of Payments No. 5 for the Barren County Area Technology Center addition, as well as a change order deducting $30,000 in unused allowance at the high school and a $23,108 change order to reroute a clay pipe around the new ATC addition.
Members are also expected to consider a BG-4 for Barren County High School flooring work by Carpet Decorators, Inc.
Policy and procedure revisions make up another large block of business.
The agenda calls for a first reading of a revised board policy on dyslexia, a new administrative procedure for early graduation guidance, and updated procedures for in-district and nonresident attendance contracts, verification of employment, and special education rules under 707 KAR 1:002 through 1:380.
Revised salary schedules, supplements and stipends for 2026-27 are also up for approval.
The board is slated to consider fall fundraisers and a request to bid on a mechanical vehicle for the transportation department.
Members will also take up bids including a dairy bid, and review data and privacy best practices for the district.
Financial housekeeping items are also on the agenda.
The board is expected to vote on an unaudited annual finance report and a procurement plan for nutrition services, along with contracts and agreements for a Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Grant and a School Garden and School Nutrition Program memorandum of understanding.
Personnel and compliance roles round out the meeting.
According to the agenda, the board will appoint a certified evaluations appeals panel member and alternate, designate Title IX coordinators and pre-board hearing officers and alternates, and decide on early entrance to kindergarten requests.
Members are also scheduled to declare surplus property, including two audiometers and preschool tables, cubbies and shelving, some of which will be sold and some instructional materials disposed of, according to the agenda.
