Glasgow residents are being invited to a free Household Hazardous Waste and Shredder Day offering safe disposal of dangerous materials and secure document destruction.

According to event organizers, the community event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Beaver Trail Park.

The event is designed to give residents a safe and convenient way to dispose of household hazardous materials that should not go into regular trash.

Officials say this includes items that can pose risks to people, pets or the environment if they are thrown away improperly.

In addition to hazardous waste collection, there will be on-site shredding to securely destroy personal documents.

Organizers say that service is intended to help residents protect sensitive information and reduce the risk of identity theft.

The event is being promoted as a no-cost service, with residents able to participate without paying fees for disposal or shredding.

Officials are encouraging broad community participation, saying the effort is aimed at protecting both individual homes and the environment in and around Glasgow.
