The Barren County Family YMCA has issued a press release that the main facility will be closed until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5.
Initially, it was believed by YMCA staff that the main facility would be closed for one day, but that has changed.
“Professional remediation will continue around the clock to ensure the facility is ready to safely reopen Monday morning,” the press release stated.
The release did also state that the full-day childcare at the YMCA and after school area was not affected and will remain open for normal business hours.

The Barren County Family YMCA in Glasgow is closed to members and the general public after an early morning fire caused extensive damage in its cardio room.
YMCA CEO Tara Bailey was live on WCLU on Wednesday morning and said the fire was contained to the cardio room, but water and smoke damage extended throughout the main part of the building.
“The fire department was on site by 3 a.m. Wednesday. DKI Restoration is also on site working to restore the building,” Bailey said.
The Glasgow Fire Department responded to a fire alarm activation, according to a press release from the fire department.
“Upon arrival, flames were visible from a window at the front of the building,” the release stated. “GFD units broke the window close to the flames and extinguished the fire. The sprinkler system kept the flames from spreading until the fire department arrived to extinguish the fire.”
The fire, along with most of the smoke and water damage, was contained to the room of origin, the release stated.
The fire fighters were on the scene for about an hour. They were assisted by Glasgow Police Department and Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Services personnel, according to the release.
“The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time,” the release stated.
