Barren County Fiscal Court has approved more than six-hundred-thousand dollars in payments, including expenses related to the county’s planned sports complex.
Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd opened this morning’s special-called meeting with a moment of silence for Kentucky State Trooper Hayden Phillips, who was killed earlier this week.
The court then approved a renewed Payment in Lieu of Taxes agreement with Tate Access Floors, with one magistrate voting against the matter.
The agreement allows the company to receive a reduction in state property taxes on qualifying industrial buildings financed through industrial building revenue bonds.
Judge Byrd said the county’s participation in the agreement does not change its position or reduce the county’s regular property tax revenue. The tax incentive is part of a state-level agreement involving Tate Access Floors.
Magistrates also approved more than $614,000 dollars in payments for various county expenses.
Some of those include jail inmate meals, 911 fees, and payments to Community Medical Care.
More than half of the total — about $346,000 — was paid to Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects for design and architect work on the planned Sports Complex.
That payment was made using state funding the county received as part of a multi-county project.
