Houchens has now officially withdrawn from plans to develop a grocery store in Metcalfe County, Judge/Executive Larry Wilson said in an Oct. 14 statement. Wilson said company representatives told him the project was not feasible because of market conditions.

Wilson said he met with Houchens in Bowling Green that day and learned the company had considered the proposal three times. He said the final decision had been made a couple of days before their meeting.

According to Wilson, a top company official was present, allowing him to hear the decision directly. His statement did not identify that official or detail the market factors behind the withdrawal.

“The decision was based on the market and not Facebook posts,” Wilson said.

Wilson said Houchens gave him permission to release the information. He expected a written withdrawal to come soon.

“I am very disappointed but understand their position,” Wilson said.

Wilson said he also plans an October twenty-first meeting with another possible suiter, but did not identify those involved and said an update would depend on permission to share their plans.
