Ava Woodcock’s family plans to honor her life and the life of her unborn child, Neveah, with a tree planting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at 2109 River St. in Bowling Green, according to news partner WNKY.
Family members spoke with WNKY about Woodcock’s kindness, her love of family and the memories they carry following her death in April. Woodcock was a Hart County High School graduate who enjoyed spending time with relatives and making memories they could laugh about later.
“I can’t say enough good things about her. She was one of my best friends,” her mother, Alisha Carter, said. “It was the first phone call I got every morning and pretty much the last phone call at night.”
Her younger brother, Gabriel Woodcock, recalled seeing his sister at work shortly before she was killed. Their conversation ended with the smile he remembered so well.
“She always had that big smile on her face,” he said.
WNKY reported that Woodcock was shot in Glasgow in April and flown to a Louisville hospital, where she and her unborn child died. Brandon Lee Bond is charged in their deaths.
Woodcock’s family said her organs were donated to help others. Her father, Wesley Woodcock, wrote to the recipients about the solace the family found in that generosity.
Carter said she continues to write letters to her daughter and speak to her through prayer. She and Gabriel Woodcock also encouraged people experiencing abuse to seek help.
“If you have problems at home, tell people,” Gabriel Woodcock said.
