Over the past few years the region has carved out a name for itself in the film industry as an up-and-coming hot spot. Filming will return next month with a new children’s movie co-directed by Branscombe Richmond and his son, Fairai Richmond.
“Kangaroo Kids” will star newly discovered Kentucky talents who were recently selected at a casting call by the Southern Kentucky Film Commission at the Cave Area Conference Center.
The movie will be filmed in Barren, Hart and Warren counties, and was selected to receive approximately $130,000 in incentives from the state.
Once filming and production is complete, “Kangaroo Kids” will be available on a new streaming platform for kids named Sunn Stream Productions.
Richmond speaks highly of the region and says that it posses a bit of that throw-back magic associated with the films of Richmond’s youth. He was inspired by works like “E.T.” and “The Goonies.”
Prior to directing films, Richmond carved out a stealthy niche for himself as an actor. His most prominent television role was in 1990s in “Renegade” as Bobby Sixkiller. He also appeared in a minor role as Moki in the pilot episode of “Magnum, P.I.,” and had cameo appearances in numerous other sitcoms.
