The factory that housed Contemporary Amperex Technology Kentucky, LLC, a section of a Chinese-based company specializing in “low lithium consumption technology” like lithium-ion batteries for the automotive industry — as was the case for the plant located at 120 Donnelley Drive — has officially listed the property on Coldwell Banker Commercial Legacy Group for $33 million.
According to a property deed dated Dec. 1, 2020, CATK purchased the LSC Communication building in 2020 for roughly $8.5 million and, according to BCEA Finance committee minutes from June 25, 2020, had a projected investment of $97.7 million. According to prior reporting the factory would employ about 350 people at $25/hour.
Despite receiving a bond grant through the state for $8.5 million to aid in the purchase of property, operating expenses and equipment, CATK never opened or did any work to the structure other than erecting the blue “CATL” sign above the entrance.
The departure by CATK was announced through a press release from the Barren County Economic Authority.
“While we are disappointed that the initial project won’t proceed,” stated Maureen Carpenter, President and CEO of the Barren County Economic Authority in the Aug. 17 press release, “we eagerly anticipate collaborating with CATK and their local realtor group to identify a new project for the facility that will generate fresh investments and job opportunities for our region.”
The property, built in 1968, now joins the other seven in and around Glasgow listed on the real estate website. According to the listing the factory is 17 acres with “over 211 acres” of surrounding land with 32 inch think walls and a “vibration free environment.” In addition to the manufacturing space, the facility has over 100 offices, 23 loading docks, rail access, and a “pavilion and clubhouse” located on the property.
Currently, according to property transfers, other than the transfer in 2020 CATK does not appear in the book at the Barren County Clerk’s Office. Therefore, no other business is taking their place in the Donnelley Drive factory.
