Three events scheduled for Nov. 10 and 11 in honor of Veterans Day

Over the next couple of days in Glasgow — Friday, Nov 10, and Saturday, Nov. 11 — three events are scheduled in celebration of the federally-recognized holiday of Veterans Day.

The first event is scheduled on Friday, Nov. 10, at the South Central Bank Operation Center, located at 501 S. L. Rogers Wells Blvd., from 7-9 a.m. The event is a free breakfast for all veterans and first responders.

The second event, also happening on Nov. 10, is the veterans dinner taking place at the National Guard Armory, located at 410 Calvary Drive. Entrance is $10 a ticket and can be pre-purchased at Glasgow City Hall or purchased at the door the day of, according to the event posting.

“Join us as we honor and celebrate our Veterans for a Dinner November 10th at the National Guard Armory,” the posting states.

The guest speaker at the event is scheduled to be Captain Craig T. Mattingly, commander at the Naval Service Training Command. Mattingly is a native of Austin, Ky., who enlisted in the Navy in 1987 as an “Aviation Anti-Submarine Warfare Operator.” He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1997 and holds a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College, Executive Leadership and Management certifications from the University of Notre Dame and is an alumnus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Seminar XXI.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with the dinner beginning at 7 p.m.

The third event is on the following day, Saturday, Nov. 11. It is the annual Veterans Day Parade honoring “our heroes” in downtown Glasgow. The event begins at noon and is supposed to end at the Veterans Wall of Honor in Beula C. Nunn Park.
