Are you interested in competing in the CrossFit Open? If so, stop by RNF CrossFit to complete the workouts.
“The open is a lot of fun. It pushes us to try to do things that maybe we weren’t really comfortable with,” Kevin Morgan said.
For the next three Fridays, RNF CrossFit will open its doors to people who want to participate in the CrossFit Open. The event will occur at 5 p.m. on March 1, March 8, and March 15 at 210 Leslie Ave. in Glasgow.
The CrossFit Open is an annual fitness competition that unites athletes worldwide. The event is held online. Participants register and submit scores for a series of workouts that spans across three weeks. Each workout is announced every Thursday and must be completed by the following Monday. The first workout will be released Thursday, Feb. 29.
“You can do it on your own or you can do it at an affiliate like we are,” said Morgan, who owns the gym. “But there is a standard. You have to be judged. Someone has to be there to count your reps correctly.”
During the event, certified coaches will be there to judge and encourage those who compete.
“We’ll have at least four coaches there every night doing the workout but also hanging out and coaching,”he said.
Currently 14 members of RNF CrossFit are registered to see how they compare with others across the world. This was accomplished by paying $20 to register for the CrossFit Open on the official CrossFit Game’s website. You can access the registration page here.
Though only 14 people are officially registered online, the entire gym is split into three teams with each having two captains.
“I tried to make the teams fair. I want everyone to have a good time,” Morgan said.
All three Fridays at RNF CrossFit are sponsored by local businesses and have a theme. This Friday is red, white, and blue themed.
“Joe Myers of Kentucky Farm Bureau, Active Healthcare Chiropractic, and the Main Street Bed and Breakfast will be feeding the crowd and be a part of the community the night that they sponsor,” he said.
Morgan has competed in the Open through his gym for the past three years.
“I’d like to be in the 85th or 90th percentile, that’s my goal. We’ll see what happens.” he said. “Last year I was in the 80th. The year before I was in the 86th.”
Whether you’re aiming for the top spot or simply testing your mettle, the Open is an opportunity to showcase your strength, endurance, and determination. It’s inclusive. Adaptive divisions cater to athletes with various abilities, including those with physical impairments.
Though free at RNF CrossFit, those who are not members of the gym are asked to fill out a waiver. You can access it here.
