Post impressionist Henri Matisse said that art takes courage, and the artists of Glasgow High School are courageously putting their art on display this May for all the world to see.
The annual Glasgow High School Art Show will be May 11, 2 to 4 p.m. at the high school, and the collection of works to be displayed is impressive.
“Students have worked hard to make art all year. The annual GHS Art Show is a celebration of all the art completed throughout the year. This year’s show includes artwork from over 20 assignments in all levels of Visual Art classes along with independent work brought in by dedicated young artists,” said Art teacher Neli Ouzounova .
Ouzounova has taught art for many years, and is also an artist. She enjoys the experience of watching students blossom through their high school journey.
“I love art and I make art, and I get to be with people who make art all day long,” she said. Thematically, Ouzounova sees much diversity in the work but says that students often reflect what they dream about and wish for inter artwork.
“I just guide them to be confident about what they are thinking. Whether they go on to be artists or something else, they acquire skills they can use in all parts of life,” Ouzounova said.
Work from the AP Art Students’ Studio will also be on display at the show. AP students participate in a rigorous, college level studio environment and have their portfolio scored by the College Board.
The works at the Art Show will not be for sale, but people interested in obtaining works they see on display will be allowed to participate in a bidding process, which allows students to decide if they’d like to part with their art for a fee.
