On Thursday, May 2, the GHS Choral Program will take the stage in the auditorium at 6:30 p.m. to take the audience on a musical tour through the decades, celebrating the rich musical history that’s contributed to our culture and community. From vinyl records to streaming playlists, together the students will blend their voices to pay homage to the songs that have echoed across several generations.

The choir comprised of Scottie Singers, GHS Accidentals a cappella group, GHS combined choir, and GMS choir students will sing approximately 12 to 15 songs during this end of the year concert.

“We have at least one song representing every decade from the ’40s to current time,” said Performing Arts teacher Sarah Shepherd.

Before creating the song list for this production, Shepherd gave her students the opportunity to voice their opinions.

“This year I gave them a survey using Google Docs and the most votes were given to through the decades,” Shepherd said.

In addition to the concert, Shepherd will recognize the seniors who have been involved in the choral program. All of which have been in the program since they were freshmen.

“The most important thing that happens is that we recognize our seniors. I do a couple of traditions each year that I can’t really disclose. They know that it’s coming but it’s supposed to be a surprise. You gotta be there to know,” Shephard said. “These seniors were freshman during the COVID year. A lot of participation in programs across the board has suffered for these seniors. I’m really proud of them for their persistence and their ability to proceed even though there were lots of things against them.”
