The Barren County Economic Authority board of director members met in a special session this morning, May 30, to formally accept two bids for work on the South Cooper Industrial Park.
Originally discussed at the May 23 BCEA Property Committee, the two bids concern the extension of the South Cooper Industrial Park’s internal road — which has been named Beltline Boulevard — and the grading work for the next two lots, which, according to a press release from the authority, comprises an additional 50 acres.
The press release states the 2,066 foot extension of Beltline Boulevard will allow for access to all lots in the park, which is located off U.S. 68/Ky. 80 past the Veterans Outer Loop.
Currently there are two speculative buildings under construction at the park — a 50,000 and a 100,000 square foot building with up to 240,000 square foot expandability — that are set to be completed by Aug. 2024 and, as the release states, the approval of the grading bid will allow “even more options for potential industries looking to locate to Barren County.”
“The decision to build these speculative buildings is based on the understanding that speed to market is a crucial factor in site location for businesses,” the release stated. “By having buildings readily available, the time required for a business to move in and start operations is significantly reduced.”
As previously reported both bids were awarded to Scotty’s Contracting & Stone LLC for $622,017.83 and $1,456,581.87 respectively.
Both were formally awarded by the board without much discussion and, after approving the payment of an invoice for work done at Chapatcha Park in Cave City, quickly adjourned.
“We are pleased to announce the continued development of the South Cooper Industrial Park,” Maureen Carpenter, the president & CEO of the Barren County Economic Authority, said. “The new graded lots will give us even more options when marketing to potential industries. The completion of our spec buildings, the infrastructure extension, and our location in the I-65 corridor put us in a great position to attract businesses to Barren County. Scott, Murphy & Daniel and Scotty’s Contracting both bring experience and desire to grow our community, making them perfect partners for this project.”
