Local students win awards at junior Beta state competition

Several area students returned from Lexington recently with new hardware after competing at the junior Beta state convention.

Glasgow Middle School’s Karisan Peters took first in the Performing Arts Solo Dancer category, and Barren County Middle School’s Hudson Wright won in 7th Grade Health and Physical Education. Glasgow Middle’s Chandler Smith also captured first place in 8th Grade Math.

Peters and North Jackson Elementary’s Keelan Robbins were both named Premier Performers in the Dancer category, while Barren County Middle’s Micah Lucas and Aubrey Blythe were recognized as Premier Performers in the Singer group. Robbins also placed second in Performing Arts Solo Dancer, and Blythe took second in Sculpture.

Barren County Middle finished second in Performing Arts Large Group, while Brady Cook was second in 8th Grade Social Studies.

Glasgow Middle had three students place second in their respective competitions: Nova Wells, 7th Grade Spelling; Wyatt Morgan, Fiber Arts; and CoraLeigh Fritsch, Accessorized Design.

The following schools and students captured third place finishes: North Jackson Elementary in Living Literature; Sydney Pedigo (Red Cross), Black and White Photography; Aaron Wilson (Glasgow Middle), 6th Grade Science; Reece Chaney (Glasgow Middle), 8th Grade Science; Lily Key (North Jackson), 6th Grade Social Studies; Shaurya Chaudhary (Glasgow Middle), 8th Grade Social Studies; Lana Martin (North Jackson), 6th Grade Spelling; and Micah Lucas (Barren County Middle), 7th Grade U.S. History.

The following awards were also given to area students: Barren County Middle, fourth in Campaign Skit; Lily Key (North Jackson), fourth place, Accessorized Design; Harley Kingrey (Red Cross), fourth place, Jewelry; Micah Lucas (Barren Middle), fourth place, Performing Arts Solo Vocalist; North Jackson Elementary, fourth place, Performing Arts Large Group; Sawyer Mosby (Barren Middle), fourth place, Poetry; Ruby Zacarias (Glasgow Middle), fourth place, 8th Grade Spanish; Tucker Garrett (Glasgow Middle), fourth place, Woodworking; Laurie Phelps (Hiseville), fifth place, Black and White Photography; and Piper Eicher (Glasgow Middle), fifth place, Poetry.
