Barren County school board members approved construction documents for a project at the Barren County Area Technology Center during their meeting Thursday evening at the district’s central office.
“That project is a grant-funded construction project to add an Industrial Maintenance program to our area tech center,” Superintendent Amy Irwin said.
As previously reported, this School Facility Construction grant was for nearly $4.2 million dollars. Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Scott Harper previously said the plan is to add roughly 5,000 square feet to the existing technology center building, which will house the new Industrial Maintenance program.
In other business on Thursday evening, the board approved Sherman Carter Barnhart as the architect for existing facility assessments and assistance with drafting the District Facility Plan and approved Tim Eaton as facilitator to assist with the District Facility Plan process.
Anthony Frazier, director of facilities for the district, said Sherman Carter Barnhart will serve as the “boots on the ground in the buildings” for the facility plan while Eaton will help communicate with the Kentucky Department of Education during this process.
The board also approved to advertise bids for the Industrial Maintenance program project at the area technology center.
