The Tennessee Valley Authority, which supplies power to the Glasgow Electric Plant Board, is turning to an experienced insider to guide the agency through its next leadership transition.

The TVA Board of Directors announced it has selected Mike Skaggs as interim president and chief executive officer, saying that the move is intended to provide steady leadership and ensure continued reliability while the board works through its permanent selection process.

Skaggs brings more than 40 years of experience in the utility industry, including serving as TVA’s chief operating officer from 2018 to 2021. In that role, he was responsible for TVA’s gas, coal and hydro generating assets, as well as its River Forecast Center, according to an authority press release.

“Mike was a leader at TVA for more than two decades and has a strong understanding of TVA’s important role in powering our seven-state region,” said TVA Board Chair Mitch Graves. “He also led the effort to enhance and modernize TVA’s transmission grid – the nation’s second largest transmission system.”

Over the course of his TVA career, Skaggs played key roles in several major nuclear milestones, including the completion and startup of Watts Bar Nuclear Plant Unit 2, the recovery of Browns Ferry Unit 1 that returned the site to full three-unit operation, and management of two major steam generator replacement projects, according to the release.
