Glasgow drivers can expect to see more traffic enforcement this month as police plan a series of safety checkpoints within the city limits.

Officers will conduct traffic safety checkpoints periodically from May 2 through May 31. The checkpoints will be set up within the Glasgow city limits at locations that include Columbia Avenue, West Main Street, North Jackson Highway and Happy Valley Road, according to a Glasgow Police Department press release. The checkpoints are not limited to those roads, meaning other sites may also be used during the month.

Officers staffing the checkpoints will focus on enforcing a range of traffic laws. They will be checking for drivers operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs, proper licensing of vehicles and operators, and valid registration and insurance. They will also be watching for seat belt and child restraint violations and other motor vehicle equipment issues.

The checkpoints are a tool to promote the safety and well-being of the public, while also increasing officer visibility and interaction with the community, according to the press release.
