Sixty-eight Barren County Schools students competed in the state Student Technology Leadership Program competition. A team from Austin Tracy Elementary and a duo from Barren County High School led the way with second-place finishes.

Austin Tracy Elementary School earned second place in the STLP26 Sphero Hero Challenge Champions division, with team members Margo Celsor, Lilah Gruber, and Presley Rowe demonstrating strong coding and robotics skills, according to a press release from the district.

The high school’s Alex Taylor and Ross Reed teamed to finish second in the Web Coding Challenge.

“The finish marks another strong performance in a category where BCHS has consistently excelled,” the release stated. “In addition, two BCHS students successfully earned industry certifications during Certipalooza, further highlighting their readiness for college and careers in technology.”

“We are incredibly proud of our students for the way they represented Barren County Schools,” said Kris Aquino, District Technology Coordinator. “STLP gives students the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in meaningful ways, and our students continue to rise to the challenge. Their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills were on full display.”

At Temple Hill Elementary School, two student projects advanced to the final stage of judging, finishing just outside the top 20 in a highly competitive field: “Bulldogs Lost Treasures” with group members “Aspen Martin, Raegan Herron, Gunner Drury, and Lily Frazier and “STLP Bulldog Cart” with group members Remy Schultz, Rodrigo Carrasco, Destiny Kinsolving-McDonald, Natalie Kinslow, and Greyson Taylor.

Students competed in a wide range of technology-based challenges, showcasing creativity, problem-solving, and real-world skills. Their efforts resulted in top finishes, finalist recognitions, and industry certifications.
