The ribbon is cut on a new aquatic center at American Legion Park. Members of the Glasgow Parks and Recreation Department, city officials and others joined Barren Inc for the ribbon cutting Thursday afternoon.
Parks and Recreation Department Director Eddie Furlong talked about the transformation of a hill from a softball field to an area with multiple water works.
The aquatic center is part of a broader upgrade to American Legion Park that has been years in the making. Furlong has been in charge of the city recreation department for 16 years, and this park renovation has been a big part of his department’s plan.
The aquatic center will open starting this Saturday. The regular aquatic center hours are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. It will be open through Labor Day.
The center is named in honor of Joyce Driver, who worked at the old city pool for 40 years.
