Juneteenth celebration at Twyman Park to feature appearance from Charles Booker

The Boys and Girls Club of Glasgow-Barren County is inviting the community to a Juneteenth celebration today at Twyman Park in Glasgow. Organizers say the event is focused on celebrating freedom, heritage, community and the future in a family-friendly setting. The celebration will feature a full slate of performances and activities throughout the day.

According to organizers, attendees can expect live singing, dance performances and spoken word, along with several guest speakers, including an appearance by US Senate candidate Charles Booker. Music will be provided by DJ Rizzi, and organizers say they hope people will be ready to dance and enjoy the atmosphere.

The Divine Nine of Western Kentucky University are also expected to participate and bring additional energy to the festivities. The Boys and Girls Club says the event is intended as a complete family affair, with many club members and their families planning to attend. Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs so they have a comfortable place to sit and enjoy the performances and speakers. Organizers say free hot dogs and hamburgers will be available at the park while supplies last.

They add that good weather is expected to help make the day more enjoyable for those who turn out to celebrate. The Juneteenth gathering is being promoted as a community effort, with residents urged to come together, celebrate and spend time with neighbors and friends. Staff with the Boys and Girls Club say they hope the event will highlight the importance of Juneteenth while also providing a fun and welcoming setting for all ages.
