West Barren farmer dies in farming accident

A Barren County farmer has died after a hay wrapping accident in western Barren County. The man has been identified as Dennis Smith, according to Barren County Coroner Tim Gibson. Local authorities say Smith was working with a hay wrapper when he reached into the machine while it was still running for unknown reasons and became caught, suffering crush injuries. It is not clear exactly when the accident happened.

According to information provided by the Sheriff’s Office, Smith had been wrapping hay bales when the incident occurred. The Barren County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were dispatched to the scene on Settles Road at 7:06 p.m. and the Barren County coroner, Tim Gibson, was called to the scene at 7:25 p.m. Gibson pronounced Smith dead at the scene. Officials say the scene was cleared at 8:58 p.m. that evening.
