Multiple celebrations of America’s 250th birthday are coming up this Friday and Saturday. On July 3, you can head over to the Cave Area Conference Center in Cave City for a celebration that begins at 6pm featuring food trucks, music and games. They will also have a fireworks show that begins at 9 p.m.
Also on the third, Edmonton will have their own celebration/fireworks show at Bowling Park. The celebration will start with a parade from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m., afterwards you will have time to grab a bite to eat at a food truck before a free concert starting around 7:15 p.m., featuring Otis and headlined by the Kentucky Headhunters. Following the free concert there will be a fireworks show starting around 9:30 p.m.
There will be two major celebrations on the day of America’s founding, one taking place at the Barren River Lake State Resort Park in Lucas, featuring food trucks, fireworks and a boaters parade. Registration for the boaters parade will be at Walnut Creek Marina from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m., with the parade starting at 2p.m. A fireworks show will follow, starting around 9 p.m.
Bowling Green will also be hosting a celebration on the fourth. The event will take place at Circus Square Park in downtown Bowling Green, it will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. kicking off with a kids sidewalk parade through the park. They will have prizes for the most patriotically dressed kid, adult, and dog. The event will also feature old style carnival games with prizes and food trucks. There will be speeches by historical figures from America’s past and a speech given by US Senator Rand Paul. Afterwards there will be swing dance lessons, starting at 12:30 p.m. The Caveman Chorus will be providing a barbershop quartet throughout the event.
As a reminder, Maj. Terry Flatt, the Glasgow Police Department’s public information officer, is promoting several safety tips for residents who choose to use fireworks. Those tips include attending public fireworks displays when possible, observing all local laws, supervising children, keeping a safe distance and using proper safety equipment. Police also recommend keeping pets in a secure and comfortable environment to reduce stress and prevent them from running away because of loud noises.
