Customers of South Central Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (SCRTC) will soon see faster internet speeds, lower monthly rates and expanded Wi-Fi features as the cooperative rolls out a major overhaul of its residential and business fiber internet offerings.
The Glasgow-based telecommunications cooperative announced the changes this week, saying the upgrades are designed to meet growing demand as households and businesses rely on more internet-connected devices for work, education, entertainment and smart home technology.
“Our focus has always been on delivering the best experience possible,” SCRTC General Manager Jeff Eaton said. “That means investing in our fiber network, offering competitive pricing, and backing it all with local customer service you can’t get from other national providers.”
Among the most significant changes is a reduction in entry-level pricing. SCRTC’s residential fiber service will now begin at $50 per month, while all residential plans will offer symmetrical upload and download speeds starting at 500 Mbps. Professional installation is included, and most plans will now include a managed Wi-Fi router at no additional cost.
The cooperative’s new residential lineup includes:
- Basic Living – 500 Mbps for $50 per month, designed for everyday browsing, streaming and video calls.
- Everyday Family – 1 Gbps for $70 per month, targeting households with multiple users who regularly work, learn, stream and game online.
- Power Home – 2.5 Gbps for $90 per month, intended for high-demand households with numerous connected devices and heavy internet usage.
All plans include managed Wi-Fi capabilities, with higher-tier plans adding advanced cybersecurity features. Customers can manage their home networks through the SCRTC Connect App, allowing them to monitor connected devices, establish parental controls and improve network security.
SCRTC Marketing Director Christian Kaumanns said many existing customers will automatically benefit from the changes.
“Many current customers will see an automatic speed increase, a bill decrease and an included router,” Kaumanns said. “Fast, affordable internet is vitally important, but having the correct router ensures all the pieces work.”
Company officials said the upgrades come as homes and businesses increasingly depend on reliable high-speed internet to support smart televisions, security systems, gaming platforms, video conferencing, point-of-sale systems and other connected technologies. Fiber networks provide the bandwidth needed to operate multiple devices simultaneously without sacrificing performance.
SCRTC, a member-owned cooperative founded in 1950, serves communities throughout south central Kentucky with telephone, fiber internet, television and communications services. Company leaders said the latest investment reinforces the cooperative’s strategy of pairing advanced fiber infrastructure with locally based customer support.
