The Caverna Independent Schools Board of Education is expected to consider a series of policy updates and operational items when it meets Thursday evening, with revisions to district handbooks, cybersecurity practices and meal pricing on the agenda.
The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Caverna Central Office in Cave City. Following student and staff recognitions and superintendent reports, board members will work through a consent agenda that includes approval of the June 25 meeting minutes, financial reports, bus inspections, travel requests, grants and school-wide fundraisers and field trips.
One of the board’s first action items will be the adoption of the district’s Data Security and Breach Notification Best Practice Guide, which would establish procedures for protecting sensitive information and responding to potential cybersecurity incidents. The board will also consider approval of the 2026-27 employee handbook and review updated student handbooks for Caverna Elementary, Middle and High schools ahead of the new school year.
Board members are also expected to approve Superintendent Amanda Abell’s recommended list of ARC chairperson designees. Admissions and Release Committees, commonly referred to as ARCs, oversee the development and review of individualized education programs for students receiving special education services.
Another item on the agenda would increase adult meal prices to maintain compliance with U.S. Department of Agriculture requirements. If approved, adult lunch prices would rise to $5.25 and breakfast prices to $3.50 beginning Aug. 12.
The board will also consider moving forward with the installation of an overhead door in the district’s industrial maintenance lab.
Public comment will be accepted near the beginning of the meeting before the board moves into its regular business.
