The Glasgow cinema is set to undergo a major transformation under a new ownership and development team. A definitive purchase agreement is in place to acquire and completely redevelop the theater at 2400 Happy Valley Road into a state-of-the-art luxury entertainment destination while maintaining first-run movies for local audiences, according to Larry Glass.

Glass is leading the project in partnership with the majority ownership and management team behind Crowne Pointe Theatre in Elizabethtown. According to the development team, the vision is to bring many of the premium features that have made Crowne Pointe one of Kentucky’s premier movie destinations to Glasgow and south-central Kentucky.

“Marquee Cinemas has done an outstanding job serving this community for many years,” Glass said. “Our goal is not simply to renovate a building. Our goal is to build upon that success and create a theater experience that residents of Glasgow, Barren County, and the surrounding region will be proud to call their own.”

Plans call for luxury reclining seating, reserved online ticketing, self-service ticket kiosks, modern digital projection and sound systems, and self-service concession stations. Enhanced food and beverage options and an overall upgraded customer experience throughout the building are also part of the concept, according to project information.

The redevelopment will include significant improvements to the building’s infrastructure, lobby areas, exterior appearance, parking facilities and customer amenities. Backers of the project say the work represents a substantial private investment in Glasgow and reflects confidence in the community’s continued growth.

Marquee Cinemas has been a staple of local entertainment since it opened in April 1998. For nearly three decades, officials say the theater has welcomed hundreds of thousands of moviegoers and hosted family outings, first dates, birthday parties, school events and movie premieres, while also contributing to Glasgow’s retail and hospitality economy.

Under the current plan, Marquee Cinemas will continue operating and showing first-run films throughout the summer of 2026. After the current operating season ends and the purchase closes, the facility will be turned over to the development team for renovation and modernization.

Developers anticipate a grand reopening in mid-spring 2027, unveiling what they describe as a completely transformed theater experience for Glasgow and the surrounding region. Project leaders say they are already seeing strong enthusiasm and support from residents and believe the community will be pleased with the final result.

JJeff Farmer, eXp Commercial, praised the cooperation among all parties involved.

“This transaction brought together a local developer with a passion for his hometown, an experienced theater operating team with a proven track record, and ownership committed to ensuring the property’s long-term success,” Farmer said. “The due diligence process was extensive and thorough, allowing all parties to fully evaluate the opportunity and establish a clear vision for the future. Reaching a final agreement is a testament to the professionalism and commitment of everyone involved, and I believe the Glasgow community will be extremely pleased with the end result.”

“Communities deserve more than just a place to watch a movie,” Glass added. “They deserve a destination where families can gather, create memories, and enjoy an experience that rivals what they might find in larger metropolitan markets. We believe Glasgow deserves that level of investment.”
