Caverna Independent Schools are inviting families to a community-wide Readifest event designed to help students gear up for the new school year.
The back-to-school bash is scheduled for Friday, July 31, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Cave Area Conference Center in Cave City, according to Terry Smith of Caverna Family Resources and Youth Services Center.
Smith said Readifest typically draws around 50 vendors who set up booths to share information and offer resources to families.
Vendors may include community organizations that provide assistance or services to local households, helping parents and students make connections ahead of the first day of school.
Families who attend will receive a checklist to visit the different stations. After going through the booths, students will be able to pick up free school supplies.
Smith said donations from recent efforts such as the Cram the Cruiser supply drive have helped fill gaps and ensure more students have what they need.
Smith described Readifest as a way to give children a strong start and build excitement for going back to class. He also emphasized that the event depends on support from community partners and sponsors, who will be recognized on signage at the conference center during the event.
In addition to supplies and resources, the event will include on-site open enrollment for families who are not currently enrolled in Caverna schools. Smith said that allows parents to sign up students and take care of paperwork during the same visit where they pick up supplies and meet community providers.
The event is open to families in the Caverna Independent School District, and organizers encouraged residents to arrive early in the 9 to 11 a.m. window to make the most of the activities.
