First responders from across Barren County were honored on the Glasgow Public Square on Saturday, Sept. 12, during the fourth annual First Responders Ball.
Organizers presented awards to representatives from fire departments, law enforcement, emergency medical services, detention and 911 dispatch.
Those recognized at the dinner included Gala Huddleston of East Barren Volunteer Fire Department and Blake Hensley of Haywood Volunteer Fire Department.
Terry Thompson of Hiseville Volunteer Fire Department, Corey Winchester of Park City Volunteer Fire Department and Paul Mares of South Barren Volunteer Fire Department were also honored.
The list of fire service honorees also included Seth Garrett of Temple Hill Volunteer Fire Department.
Beyond fire and rescue, Marcus Thurman was recognized for Emergency Management and the Rescue Squad.
In law enforcement, Mark Johnson represented the Barren County Sheriff’s Office, while Adam Maulden was honored from the Cave City Police Department.
Major Terry Flatt received recognition from the Glasgow Police Department, and Alex Owens represented the Barren County Detention Center. Flatt recently retired from the police department.
In emergency medical services and communications, the event honored Lauren Cañas of Barren-Metcalfe EMS and Chrystal Dodson of 911 Dispatch.
The awards dinner took place a day after the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, when hijacked commercial airliners were crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
Community leaders have noted that the annual ball has become an opportunity for residents to publicly thank those who answer emergency calls throughout Barren County.
The gathering on the Public Square brought together volunteers and professionals from multiple agencies who serve the region every day.
