A Barren County man is facing a dozen felony charges after a Kentucky State Police undercover online investigation uncovered child sexual abuse material involving children under 12.
According to the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch, officers arrested 39-year-old Stephen Alan Wolfgang of Barren County around 12:20 a.m. on Sept. 12, 2026.
State police said the arrest followed an undercover Internet Crimes Against Children investigation.
Investigators with the KSP Electronic Crime Branch began looking into the case after they said they discovered a suspect sharing images of child sexual exploitation online.
The investigation led to a search warrant executed on Sept. 11, 2026.
Troopers said electronic equipment believed to have been used to facilitate the alleged crimes was seized during the search.
That equipment has been taken to the Kentucky State Police forensic laboratory for further examination, and officials said the investigation is ongoing.
Wolfgang is currently charged with ten counts of distribution of matter portraying a minor in a sexual performance under 12 years old.
He is also charged with two counts of possession of matter portraying a minor in a sexual performance under 12 years old.
According to state police, all of the counts are Class C felonies, each punishable by five to ten years in prison if convicted.
Wolfgang was lodged in the Barren County Detention Center following his arrest. As of Monday morning, he remained in the jail on a $200,000 cash bond, according to online jail records.
The jail website lists his initial court appearance for Thursday, Sept. 17.
The case is part of the work of the Kentucky Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which is led by the Kentucky State Police.
According to KSP, the ICAC Task Force brings together more than 26 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
The task force was created by the U.S. Department of Justice to help agencies respond to cyber enticement cases and investigations involving child sexual abuse material.
