A house on Burkesville Road in Barren County is salvageable after a fire Wednesday, Oct. 7, was mostly contained to the kitchen, according to East Barren Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Logan Thomas. The cause remains officially undetermined.
The department received the call at 3:16 p.m. Thomas estimated that fully extinguishing the fire and clearing the scene took approximately 1 1/2 to two hours.
Thomas said he was unsure whether anyone was inside the house when the fire occurred. He said he did not believe anyone was there, but that was not confirmed.
The kitchen was the main area affected by the fire, according to Thomas. He attributed the home’s salvageable condition to the fire being contained primarily to that part of the house.
Thomas said firefighters cleared the house fire scene at about 5:30 p.m. East Barren crews then returned to a hay fire that was already in progress.
