Glasgow News 1
The Barren County Historical Society will host a free walking tour of West Washington Street in Glasgow on Thursday, Oct. 22, highlighting historic structures along one of the city’s oldest streets. The twilight program begins at 5:30 p.m., according to a flier from the society.
Titled “Echoes from the Porch,” the tour is open to the public and is expected to last about an hour. Its focus is the history of West Washington Street and the structures along it.
Participants should gather before the tour at Vibratech, 202 W. Washington St. The gathering place is the former site of the Barren County Schools Central Office, according to the flier.
The tour comes as a development proposal has drawn attention to West Washington Street. The Glasgow City Council voted 7-2 on Oct. 12 to table a proposed rezoning on the street while a legal challenge involving the property awaits a court hearing.
The piece of property is approximately 2.94 acres and the zone change request was from medium-density residential and office-professional classifications to R-4, a medium-density multifamily residential district. Barren County Fiscal Court owns property owner and Hero Foundation Inc. is the organization proposing a 75-unit affordable senior housing development.
Council members received requests from nearby residents to oppose the rezoning before voting to delay consideration.
