Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Services plans to open a new ambulance station at 31 Matthews Mill Road in Haywood. Dr. Joe Middleton, the service’s executive director and chief executive officer, said the station will help reduce response times in southern Barren County once fully operational.
A soft opening is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 9. There will be a ribbon cutting at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at the facility, at the corner of Matthews Mill Road and Scottsville Road south of Glasgow.
Middleton previously said response times to the Austin Tracy area were about 19 minutes with the present two facilities. He also said response times to other communities in southern Barren County were too high.
Those southern communities were being served from the station on East Main Street. The Ambulance Service Corporation, Inc. Board of Directors approved the Haywood station after researching county call volumes and response times to specific areas.
Andrew Collins of Collins Custom Homes told the board the facility was effectively complete as of Oct. 28, with minor details remaining. Board members and ambulance service personnel toured the station during the board’s most recent meeting there.
Middleton praised Collins and his business partner, Brad Dubree, for their work on the facility.
“They’ve tried to meet every need we have found,” Middleton said.
