Kentucky State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that happened overnight at Barren River State Park.
At just after midnight Wednesday morning, state police received a call from the Barren County Sheriff’s Office about a single-vehicle fatal collision. Troopers went on scene at 1149 State Park Road.
A preliminary investigation indicates that a black 2005 Subaru Impreza operated by Jose Castillo, 18, of Bowling Green, was traveling north on State Park Road and drove off the end of State Park Road, which is the end of a boat ramp into Barren River Lake. Both Mr. Castillo and a juvenile passenger were able to exit the vehicle through the windows. The juvenile passenger was able to swim to safety. Mr. Castillo was unable to swim to safety and drowned.
The investigation is ongoing and will be led by Detective Bo Hubbard.
Several agencies were dispatched after midnight, according to the 911 report, including the Barren County Search and Rescue Squad, which conducts water rescues.
