On Friday, Sept. 20, the Barren County Economic Authority, an organization with the mission of “provid[ing] economic development resources in Barren County” in hopes of attracting, as the name suggests, economic development, announced the completion of a speculative building in the South Cooper Industrial Park.
The new speculative building — specifically lot 1 of the seven in the industrial park –is roughly 50,000 square feet and is expandable up to 240,000 square feet.
“This versatile building opens the door for many different opportunities in Southcentral Kentucky,” BCEA stated on their social media post announcing its completion.
As previously reported, the initial construction was officially announced on June 9, 2023 and at the time CEO and President Maureen Carpenter said the purpose of the speculative buildings was to make it more efficient for businesses as it eliminates the need for them to construct a building of their own.
“It’s all about time, risk and money,” Carpenter said. ”So, if you can reduce the amount of time it takes to get the project done, if you can reduce the risk by doing the due diligence, and if you can reduce the amount of money companies will have to spend, then that’s how we stand out.”
On Mar. 6 the authority greenlit the next phase of construction and on May 30 the BCEA Board of Directors approved bids to extend the park’s internal road and to “grade” the next two lots.
